Project Description:   Schneider Structural(SSE) teamed with C.J. Schneider Engineering(CJS) to design an entirely brand new Meat Processing Facility to be constructed by Reliance Construction, LLC.  This Meat Processing facility is by far the best around in the region and is now owned by National Beef.  SSE provided the Architectural, Civil, and Structural designs and CJS provided the Mechanical, and Electrical, designs.  This project was unique due to the location of the facility being in Southern California in a very high seismic zone which resulted in the lateral design forces in the range of 76% of the vertical loads.    Many of the exterior walls of the facility were contructed with tilt-up concrete panels designed and detailed by SSE that were cast on the site and tilted up into place.   The facility included vast areas of basement areas below the kill floor and fabrication floor areas that were connected by large tunnels that served as mechanical chaseways.  Most of the structures in the facility were designed with shallow spread and continuous footings  and load bearing concrete retaining walls at the basement and tunnel areas.  SSE provided special detailing of the paving, slab, subgrade, and foundation systems due the existing soils being highly expansive.  The welfare, cattle pen, and box storage structures were constructed with pre-engineered buildings that SSE provided the design load requirements as well as the floor slab, foundations, and interior wall requirements.   The processing areas were constructed with tilt-up concrete wall panels that lined on the interior with insulated metal panels.  The skeleton of the structures consisted of Precast concrete columns, beams, hollow core and d.t.’s.  There were also many walls constructed of special reinforced concrete masonry.   The refrigeration units of the processing areas were constructed and supported within steel framed and insulated metal panel walls and roofs either above the roof or below the roof to allow for easy access for maintenance.
